Legal:
Since 2005 Carl-Philipp Clarenbach is concerned with the preparation of patent applications, with opposition and inter partes proceedings as well as with expert opinions, infringement analyses, validity analyses, freedom-to-operate analyses and due-diligence proceedings. The emphasis is mainly in the field of mechanical engineering, in particular automotive engineering, electrical test devices, printing technologies and air conditioning systems.
In addition, he is familiar with the application and prosecution of designs and trademarks, national and international. Carl-Philipp Clarenbach provides consulting for German and international, large and medium-sized enterprises as well as for university and commercial research institutes and start-up enterprises.
Carl-Philipp Clarenbach studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Karlsruhe (Germany) as well as at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst (USA). He wrote his diploma thesis about high performance valve trains of internal combustion engines at the Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG and in collaboration with the Institute for Product Development at the University of Karlsruhe in 2005. Between 2005 and 2008 he was trained in the field of Intellectual Property Law at Gleiss & Große. Additionally he passed through practical trainings at the German Patent and Trademark Office, the German Federal Patent Court and the District Court of Mannheim. In 2012 he completed his education with becoming a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in the field of European Intellectual Property Laws.
Admitted to practice
Carl-Philipp Clarenbach was admitted both as a German Patent Attorney and European Patent, Trademark and Design Attorney in 2009.
He is admitted at the German Patent- and Trademark Office (DPMA), the German Federal Patent Court (BPatG), the European Patent Office (EPO) and the HABM. He is also admitted at the German Federal Supreme Court (BGH) in connection with nullity actions, proceedings concerning supplementary protection certificates and compulsory licenses. He is also admitted at the Bundessortenamt (Federal Bureau for Protection and National Listing of New Plant Varieties). Furthermore, with the start of the new European Unitary Patent System he is a registered represantative before the new Unified Patent Court (UPC).
Carl-Philipp Clarenbach consults and represents domestic and international, large and medium sized enterprises as well as universities, commercial research institutes and start-ups. Furthermore, he trains patent attorney candidates at the firm and gives lectures on IP related topics.

He is member of the German Patent Attorneys’ Association, the German Association for the Protection of Industrial Property and Copyright law (GRUR), the Federal Association of German Patent Attorneys, the International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys (FICPI) and the Institute of Professional Representatives before the European Patent Office (EPI).
